Overview of Position

Deliver sales, margin and turnover over plan and LY by leading the localization of the GPM-area strategy and execution. Primary advocate between the Regional Director of Stores, DVPs, District Planners and the Central Planning organization.

Travel requirement: Spend minimum of 2 days per week in stores plus attend 2 deep dive per month with, visiting each District every other month, plus attend 1 deep dive per month with RDS. Travel to market/central approximately 4 times per year.

Key Accountabilities

Identify opportunities to deliver sales, margin and turnover goals through effective use of short and long range planning and in-season analysis
Lead District Planning teams to drive top line sales over plan and LY
Have complete knowledge of a GPM area across ~100 doors and 5-11 Districts
Review and compare analysis across Districts, including in other Regions. Share best practices
Communicate insights and recommend localization actions to Regional Director of Stores, NPM, DPMs, Central Planning, District Planners, District VPs, Central Buying. Scale up opportunities where appropriate.
Identify over/underperforming Districts and doors; recommend actions

Coordinate and Strategize with Central and District teams
Develop strong working partnerships with RDS & DVPs with a focus on regional/district sales growth
Convey strategic decisions made by Central planning organization to District Planners
Monitor activity, flow, and quality of communication on the Communication Tool
Coach DPs to ensure that requests in the Communication Tool are timely, appropriate and sales-driving
Resolve conflict between field and Central Office so that decision is always reached on recommendations
Aggregate and scale up requests so that information flow into Central Office is manageable for GPMs/DPMs and Inventory Management
Participate in bi weekly MIC call with DPM/PM on seasonal planning and other strategy meetings regularly)
Schedule regular conversations with DPMs, to discuss sales opportunities
Lead weekly meeting/conference call with District Planners
Facilitate strategic planning communication between Central Office and the DVPs/DMs
Communicate info, trends, direction, strategy from market trips and central/vendor to District Planners (MIC’s communicate to RPM team). Own the MIC role on behalf of other RPM’s in area
Attend weekly meetings (Execution, RDS Staff Meetings, DP Conf Call, RPM Call)

Maximize space allocation within each door
Consult on space allocation changes within GPM area following the Brand Space and Location process
Recommend changes in space allocation across FOBs to DVPs by coordinating with other RPMs, Central Buying and Planning
Validate/consult on all vendor and private label shop merchandise needs with Merchants

Review major decisions and recommendations made by District Planners for each door in District
Approve bottom-up store level sales plan. Support DP’s in the new Planning Process
Drive sales by providing callouts following initial assortment plans, based on local needs· Finalize and approve the vendor additions/edits by store after recommendations from District Planners
Evaluate congruency within GPM area across Districts; recommend differences based on locations, competitive landscape, and customer preferences
Identify consistent success in similar Districts and encourage District Planners to review together congruency in department/class performance, stock levels, or assortment
Partner with other RPM’s in the Region and withing GPM group to surface opportunities
Apply known successes from other regions to business; share successes/new thinking with DPs

Represent the Region, both formally and informally, in meetings with GMMs, GPMs, and vendors, and in the market
Participate in meetings with GPM/GMM (in person, conference call, etc.), including weekly updates, seasonal planning, and general business meetings
Travel to major markets 4 times per year to interact directly with their vendors in conjunction with GPM/GMM on Region-specific assortments and vendor matrix issues

Recruit, train, and develop District Planners
Align District Planner activities with master planning calendar, including market dates, Private Brand dates, and seasonal planning cycles
Travel to each District as needed for store visits, review of current business, and training and follow-up with the District Planners. Spend time in District Planner offices as well as in stores
Recruit and develop District Planners. Train District Planners on reports, analysis and the seasonal location planning process to ensure that they reach their highest potential. Ensure focus on sales results by utilizing reports and other tools. Evaluate and administer performance appraisals/MDRs
Coach District Planners during District visits to be strategic thinkers, and proactive, not just reactive
Develop and manage seasonal travel budget.

Skills Summary

4-year college degree preferred
6-8+ years experience of retail management and buying/planning preferred
