Description
Position Summary:
Responsible for set-up, composition and lighting of product in a predetermined setting, leading to image capture (either digitally or conventionally) for promotional advertising purposes. All photographs must be executed in accordance with the goals and instructions of the Marketing and Buying divisions.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Compose and scale product to fit provided layouts. Prepare and set up background with support from Photo Assistants and carpentry as necessary. Make decisions based upon seasonal creative direction to determine lighting required to achieve a reproducible image, insuring appropriate exposure from color density and tone to highlights and shadows. Collaborate with Photo Art Directors in selecting locations that will meet lighting and creative needs.
• Analyze the creative requirements necessary to highlight product features and presentation preferences of the Marketing and Buying divisions of the company.
• Responsible for all aspects of the technical, aesthetic and production requirements of a photo shoot. Must maintain and encourage a balance between these needs.
• Supervise and direct the activities of a photo assistant. Encourage growth and mentor ability in all aspects of a photo shoot.
• Responsible for adapting to production requirements of a high volume studio while maintaining established quality standards.
• May be asked to represent the studio at merchandising meetings, and to provide creative input for art directors and designers to assist with concept development.
• Ability to shoot both in studio and on location. Required to scout locations to determine feasibility of meeting creative and technical requirements. Responsible for assembling equipment and choosing appropriate film for location shooting.
• Required to maintain photo equipment to ensure longevity, repairing as necessary and able, and to be cost effective in use of supplies and consumables such as film. Maintain equipment records and inventory and safeguard assigned equipment.
• Must be able to travel out-of-state locations when necessary.
• Maintain a competent portfolio of current work that displays photographer’s technical and creative proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Multiple years in a photo studio management position.
• Multiple years of photography related experience.
• Strong leadership skills
